We're very excited to announce the Café Royal Books Publishing Grant!

This year, submissions are open to those using photography to celebrate themes of running or the natural environment.

Submissions are free, global, inclusive — open to all, and accepted throughout April. We'll be awarding the grant shortly after, following which, we’ll work with the selected photographer to edit and sequence the book before publishing it. The photographer will receive one fifth of the print run. If you're not too familiar with Café Royal Books, please take a look at our website — your book will follow the same format as the others we publish.

This isn’t a review of work or a chance for feedback. We can’t respond to submissions, nor can we provide feedback on decisions made. You will receive acknowledgement from WeTransfer of your submission having been sent. Copyright of the images remains with the photographer, we just ask that if press are interested, we can use a selection of the award-holder’s images from the book, with credit, and in relation to the book. We will also use the images on our website and social channels to promote the book and the grant. All submissions and related data will be removed from our systems by end of May.

To submit, please send up to 50 images—colour or black and white—with a short introduction to you and the work. The images you submit don’t need to be from a single series, but they should be fairly coherent — it doesn’t matter when the work was made. Images for submission should be low-resolution, about 1MB each or 1200px longest side. If selected we will need images of at least 4MB each. Submissions are limited to one per photographer, per award. By submitting, you are stating that the work you submit is yours, that you are the copyright holder, and that you are happy with the detail above.

Please send submissions by WeTransfer only, as a single transfer, to award@caferoyalbooks.com. Please use the subject line, “Your Name 2004 Grant Submission”.

We’ll contact the recipient of the award by mid-May, using the email provided in the submission.

We’re looking forward to seeing your work.
